What is God

What Brahman is cannot he described. All things in the world - the Vedas, the Puranas, the Tantras, the six systems of philosophy - have been defiled, like food that has been touched by the tongue, for they have been read or uttered by the tongue. Only one thing has not been defiled in this way, and that is Brahman. No one has ever been able to say what Brahman is.

A man had two sons. The father sent them to a preceptor to learn the Knowledge of Brahman. After a few years they returned from their preceptor's house and bowed low before their father. Wanting to measure the depth of their knowledge of Brahman, he first questioned the older of the two boys. 'My child,' he said, 'You have studied all the scriptures. Now tell me, what is the nature of Brahman?' The boy began to explain Brahman by reciting various texts from the Vedas. The father did not say anything. Then he asked the younger son the same question. But the boy remained silent and stood with eyes cast down. No word escaped his lips. The father was pleased and said to him: 'My child, you have understood a little of Brahman. What It is cannot be expressed in words.'

Ce este Brahman(nume sanskrit pentru divinitate) nu poate fi descris. Toate lucrurile din lume-Vedele, Puranele, cele sase sisteme filosofice-au fost intinate, precum mancarea atinsa de limba, pentru ca ele au fost citite sau rostite de catre limba. Doar un singur lucru nu a fost intinat in acest fel, si acest lucru este Brahman. Nimeni nu a fost capabil sa spuna vreodata ce este Brahman.

Un om avea doi fii. Tatal i-a trimis la un invatator sa invete Cunoasterea lui Brahman. Dupa cativa ani ei s-au intors acasa si si-au salutat tatal. Dorind sa masoare cunoasterea lui Brahman a fiilor, tatal l-a intrebat pe cel mai mare dintre ei „Copilul meu” a spus el, „Tu ai studiat toate scripturile. Spune-mi care este natura lui Brahman?” Baiatul a inceput sa il explice pe Brahman racitand diverse texte din Vede. Tatal nu spunea nimic. Apoi el l-a intrebat pe cel mai mic acelalsi lucru. Dar baiatul a ramas tacut si si-a tinut privirea in jos. Niciun cuvant nu i-a iesit din gura. Tatal a fost multumit de el si i-a spus: „ Copilul meu, tu l-ai inteles un pic pe Brahman. Ceea Ce este nu poate fi exprimat in cuvinte.”
